About the NOUN ACETEL Programme
The Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL) is a World Bank-assisted project supported by the Association of African Universities (AAU) and the National Universities Commission (NUC), Nigeria. ACETEL aims to build human capacity and conduct research in ICT, Cyber Security, and Digital Policies, ultimately driving technological development across Africa.

Eligibility Criteria for NOUN ACETEL Admission
To qualify for NOUN ACETEL programmes, applicants must meet the following criteria:
General Eligibility:
- Must be a citizen of an African country (West African applicants are encouraged).
- Must demonstrate a clear vision of how the acquired knowledge will contribute to educational reform.
- Must have English or French proficiency to participate fully in the courses.
- Must meet Nigeria’s student visa requirements (for international applicants).
- Female applicants are encouraged to apply and will be given priority.
Academic Requirements
Short Courses
- Minimum of five (5) O’level credits, including English or French Language.
Master’s Degree (M.Sc.)
- Minimum of Second Class (Upper or Lower) in a First Degree or its equivalent.
- Must possess five (5) O’level credits, including English or French.
Ph.D. Degree
- Minimum of Second Class or equivalent in First Degree and a CGPA of 4.5 at MSc level.
- Must submit a research proposal (max. 5 pages) including: Topic, Introduction, Objectives, Methodology, and Mode of Data Collection.
- Possession of five (5) O’level credits, including English or French.

NOUN ACETEL Orientation Programme
New students at ACETEL participate in a virtual orientation programme at the start of every academic semester. This programme introduces students to:
- NOUN ACETEL operations and support services.
- The Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system.
- Course selection, registration, and ICT facilities.
Students will receive orientation details via SMS and email and are strongly advised to attend for a smooth academic experience.
Degree Award Requirements
Programme Duration
- Master’s Programmes: Minimum of 4 and Maximum of 8 semesters.
- Ph.D. Programmes: Minimum of 6 and Maximum of 12 semesters.
Course Registration
- Students must register online at https://acetel.nou.edu.ng after completing semester payments.
- Minimum: 10 credit units per semester.
- Maximum: 20 credit units per semester (24 if carrying over failed courses).
- Some courses have prerequisites that must be completed before advancing.
Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA) & Examinations
- TMAs are online and contribute 30% to the final score.
- End-of-Semester Exams make up 70% of the final score.
- Examinations may be e-Exams or Pen-on-Paper (PoP) Exams, conducted at designated centres.
Research Projects & Industrial Attachment
Master’s & Ph.D. Research Projects
- M.Sc. Research Projects: 6 credit units (to be registered in the third semester).
- Ph.D. Research Projects: 12 credit units with external defense before graduation.
Submission Requirements:
- Four (4) hard copies and soft copies in two (2) CDs.
- Must be written according to NOUN guidelines.
Industrial Attachment (IT/SIWES)
- Masters’ students must complete 6 weeks of industrial training.
- The training must be relevant to the student’s discipline and will be assessed by field supervisors.
